Dear Mr. X,

It was with great interest that I read your recent posting on EnvironmentalCareers.com. Coming from a National Park Service family, I have always admired the SCA for its commitment to involving youth in understanding and protecting our unique natural treasures. Though I personally have never served with the SCA, I have met many of its members and alumni though my own research, fieldwork and classes. When I learned that the position of SCA Southeastern Grants Specialist was available, I was summarily delighted. I believe that with my qualifications I can make a valuable and immediate contribution to your operations.

To write compelling and accurate proposals and reports one must be familiar with the subject and have excellent writing skills. This position also needs someone who can work well both in a group and independently. I believe that my experience makes me an excellent candidate:

Education- I have a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia. My coursework included lectures, labs and fieldwork in a variety of topics in environmental sciences. I have done structured work in labs and work in the field both in southern Virginia and at Grand Canyon National Park.

Experience- For the past three years I have had an overseas teaching position where creatively designed lesson plans radically increased student participation. I know how to use language to spark interest in my subject. I have written documents for small publications, large group audiences and professional duties.

Professionalism- I had the unique honor of serving as a Steering Committee member while in Japan. Through these experiences, as well as my college work, I learned to work with people from different backgrounds to create something valuable. I look forward to putting this skill to use in the non-profit world.

As your Southeastern Grants Specialist I could use my experiences to forward the mission of the SCA. I can be a leader and a flexible co-worker working towards a better future for our environment. I would very much welcome the opportunity to speak with you regarding this opportunity.

Sincerely,
Nekocon
